Central Viet Nam continues to sizzle in heatwave as mercury could breach 38 degree C
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected to occur in Northern Viet Nam and Thanh Hoa, during afternoon and night hours on Thursday, June 15 while heavy and thundery falls are likely in some places, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
National forecasters indicate heavy rainfall of 20mm to 40mm, and even in excess of 60mm at isolated places in these aeras.
Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds, national forecasters has warned. Localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying areas.
Thundery rain is expected to continue in the northern region through Friday, June 16.
On Thursday, a trough of low pressure is forecast to bring the threat of strong showers and thunderstorms to the Gulf of Tonkin, and the northern part of the East Sea.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect in Central Viet Nam.
The high temperatures continue through the parts from Nghe An to Binh Dinh, including Da Nang, on Thursday and Friday. Sweltering temperatures will see these areas bake at 35-37 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is likely to touch over the 38-degrees Celsius mark in some places. The lowest humidity level in these localities will be between 55% and 65%.
The heat will continue for the next few days across the parts from Thanh Hoa to Binh Dinh, including Da Nang.
During scorching days, the perceived outdoor temperature in the affected areas may be 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than the forecast temperature, possibly even higher depending on the buffer surface conditions such as concrete and asphalt.
The best chance for any thunderstorms will be possible in mountainous areas of the central region in late afternoon hours during scorching days. A severe thunderstorm will bring potentially damaging conditions such as high winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes, the regional forecasters have warned.
On Thursday, severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while showers and thunderstorms are predicted at isolated places during the late afternoon and night hours. The Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3 could reach these areas. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 34-37 degrees Celsius, even upper 37 degrees Celsius in some places while minimum temperature will be in the range of 26-29 degrees Celsius.
The searing heat continues to bake the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today with isolated showers and thunderstorms likely to develop during late afternoon and night hours. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3.Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 26 to 29 degrees Celsius and highs of 33 to 36 degrees Celsius, even above 37 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
The long-lasting heat is also contributing to a high fire danger and will produce a very high risk of heat illness.
The heat wave will bring life-threatening conditions to many people working outdoors. Anyone outdoors during the hottest times of the day will need to drink plenty of fluids, and take breaks from strenuous activities to lower the risk for heat-related illnesses.
