Chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in many parts of the country

An unsettled weather pattern has taken shape that looks to bring parts from Ha Tinh to Binh Thuan, including Da Nang, Central Highlands and the Southern region periods of showers and thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon, Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has said.

The national weather service has forecast widely scattered showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon hours on Monday with localized heavy downpours across the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An. Heavy rainfall of 20mm - 50mm is predicted in common across these areas with more than 80 mm of rain expected to dump at isolated places.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms at most places with moderate to heavy falls at isolated places during afternoon and evening hours are also likely over the parts from Ha Tinh to Binh Thuan, including Da Nang, Central Highlands and the Southern region today. Rain amounts on Monday are forecast to generally average between 20 and 40 mm with more than 70mm possible in some places.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas, national forecasters has warned. Localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying areas.

On Monday, sunshine is forecast for central parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien - Hue and there is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours in some places while moderate to heavy rain is possible in some places. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 32-35 degrees Celsius, and even upper 35 degrees Celsius at isolated locations while minimum temperature will be in the range of 24-27 degrees Celsius.

Heat is continuing to bake the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today with scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and evening hours with moderate to heavy rain expected in some places. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius and highs of 32 to 35 degrees Celsius, even above 35 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
