Ms. Tran Cao Thanh Binh, the Head of the hospital’s Social Work Department revealed that, during their working at the hospital, she and her co-workers witnessed parents carrying their babies in one hand and a lot of stuff in the other hand. Therefore, they want to do something to help the patients' relatives less hard? That's why the ‘Strollers of Compassion’ programme was born.

The programme receives used strollers still in good condition. Upon receipt, the strollers are cleaned and repainted with the hospital's sign by the staff of the Social Work Department before being put into use.

At the end of the day, the strollers are disinfected with disinfectants. At the end of the week, they are cleaned by the staff in turn. After more than a year of the implementation, the programme has received a total of 63 strollers for different ages.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, 39, residing in Son Tra District, said thanks to the stroller, my baby can sleep peacefully and comfortably while waiting for her turn to get medical examinations. The baby is no longer tired and hot when the mother holds her and the mother is also very healthy when she does not have to carry her armpits and hold her baby.

“As a mother, I find it is a very humane and meaningful programme for pediatric patients” she added.

Therefore, when she returned home, Ms. Trang donated an unused stroller to the programme, aiming to help more children during the hospital.

Taking us around medical examinations and treatment areas, Mrs. Doan Thi Hong Van, a staff of the Social Work Department, could not hide her happy smile when she saw babies playing happily or sleeping soundly in strollers while waiting for their turns to get medical checkups.

However, Mrs. Van still raises her deep concern that the current number of strollers is only enough for the needs of outpatients, whilst many other inpatients are in need of strollers.

Therefore, she hopes that the programme will be widely spread so that there are more strollers for pediatric patients, helping partly sharing hardships of their relatives.
