Extreme heat bakes Central Viet Nam with temperatures to exceed 37 degrees Celsius

A weather warning for moderate to heavy rain with localized extremely heavy falls and a chance of scattered thunderstorms has been issued for Northern Viet Nam and Thanh Hoa Province by Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. The warning is in place for these areas until Friday or Saturday.

Moderate to heavy rain with isolated very heavy rainfall is forecast to continue lashing these areas during the late afternoon and night hours on Tuesday but rainfall intensity is expected to gradually decrease from Thursday.

The northern region and Thanh Hoa recorded extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations during night hours on Monday and early Tuesday morning.

From 7:00pm on Monday to 3:00am on Tuesday, June 13, Ha Giang Province’s Yen Dinh received 111mm of rain while 113mm fell in Bac Kan Province’s Dong Lac. During the same period, 108. 9 mm of rain were recorded in Vinh Phuc Province’s Minh Quang while 78.6 mm occurred in Phu Tho Province’s Doan Hung.

Milder temperatures are expected to return to the northern region today, June 13.

Extreme heat put residents in much of Central Viet Nam, especially the parts from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, under heat warnings and advisories on Tuesday and Wednesday, national forecasters have warned.

The maximum temperature in the region is expected to touch 35-37 degree Celsius, and even above 37 degree Celsius at isolated locations. Lowest humidity is likely to record at 45-65 per cent.

On Tuesday, severe heatwave condition is likely to prevail over the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while showers and thunderstorms are predicted at isolated places during the late afternoon and night hours.  Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 34-37 degrees Celsius, even above 37 degrees Celsius in some places while minimum temperature will be in the range of 26-29 degrees Celsius.

Sunshine is forecast today for the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan with the chance of showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours at isolated places. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 26 to 29 degrees Celsius and highs of 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in the northern part of the region, even above 37 degrees Celsius in some places while the southern part is bracing for highs of 32 to 35 degrees Celsius.
