At about 3:00pm on June 9, while conducting fishing activities on Hoang Sa waters, a crew member onboard fishing boat QNg 98064 TS from Duc Pho Town, Quang Ngai Province, suddenly had pain around the navel that spread to the right iliac fossa with increasing and continuous pain intensity.
At that time, the patient frequently vomited and fell into a coma at 11:17 am on June 11.
After receiving SOS message from the boat’s captain, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) requested the vessel to immediately stop operating and change its course to the mainland, and at the same time coordinated with the Viet Nam National Institute of Maritime Medicine and the Da Nang 115 Emergency Centre to provide medical advice for the fisherman in distress.
According to the diagnosis by mainland doctors, the sick fisherman was able to have acute appendicitis in a dangerous stage. The patient needed to be treated promptly and delays in medical treatment can lead to death.
Facing the critical situation, Viet Nam MRCC asked the Da Nang MRCC to immediately send out its rescue ship SAR 412, carrying doctors from the city’s Emergency Centre 115, to help the victim. SAR 412 reached the fishing boat at around 8:33pm on the same day, and immediately deployed on-site emergency. Initially, the victim's life was saved.
At 2:21am on June 12, the ship SAR 412 brought the crewmember in distress to Da Nang safely and handed him over to the authorities according to regulations. Currently, the patient is under medical treatment at a local hospital.
