Many meaningful activities are being organised at the Oncology Department of the Da Nang Hospital, aiming at giving cancer patients more faith during their fight against the evil disease. These include a bookcase of kindness, music exchange programmes and free yoga classes.

Over the past few days, the corner of "kindness bookcase" has received much attention from patients being treated on the 3rd floor of the Oncology Department of the Da Nang Hospital.

The bookcase donated by the Da Nang Party Committee's Publicity and Education Department is a spiritual gift for the patients. Many patients find joy and motivation after hours of painful treatment.

Mr. N.Q.P from Quang Ngai Province, a patient of the Oncology Department, said that his biggest wish was to find something to do to forget about stress and pain after each radiation treatment. And, books are very precious spiritual food for patients like him.

Taking care of her husband in the hospital, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham from Quang Nam Province is happy to have a bookcase as a friend. She hopes to gain more useful knowledge and entertain herself in her spare time after taking care of her husband.

The bookcase has about 500 copies of books providing scientific and nutrition knowledge for cancer patients, along with cultural and entertainment books.

In his remarks at the donation ceremony, Deputy Head of the municipal Party Committee's Publicity and Education Department Doan Xuan Hieu said that the donation of the bookcase aimed to help cancer patients relax and be more optimistic during their medical treatment process at the hospital, as well as help their relatives have more knowledge in disease prevention, treatment, nutrition and spiritual care.

In the coming time, the Publicity and Education Department will expand the model of kindness bookcases to other departments in the Da Nang Hospital and other public hospitals citywide.

Aside from the bookcase, many exchange activities also contribute to helping the patients to relax and overcome difficulties.

According to Deputy Head of the Oncology Department Phan Van Luong, every month, writers, artists and many young people organise music exchange activities right in hall of the department.

“Patients can participate in singing, exchanging and sharing more. Those moments make a great contribution to the treatment of patients, especially cancer patients. The patients have a moment to temporarily forget their pain" Dr. Luong added.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Hospital Nguyen Thanh Trung said that cancer treatment not only revolves around drugs, and radiation and chemotherapy methods, but also takes care of the mental life and other patient-related difficulties.

I hope to have more meaningful charitable activities like this to contribute energy to help patients overcome difficulties, Dr. Trung noted.
