Joining efforts to make Da Nang cleaner and more environmentally friendly

On Saturday, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in coordination with the Cam Le District People's Committee, launched the Action Month for the Environment, the Viet Nam Sea and Islands Week, and award certificates of merit from the Chairman of the municipal People's Committee to 22 groups.

The programme aimed to respond to World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8) in order to strongly spread to the whole community and visitors the message to build a sustainable lifestyle, in harmony with nature, ensure the rational use of natural resources, biodiversity and adaptation to climate change; solve plastic waste pollution towards a greener, cleaner lifestyle; increase recycling and reuse; strengthen the implementation of the ‘Building Da Nang into an Environmentally-friendly city’ project in the 2021 - 2030 period.

Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Nguyen Chuong informed that ‘Solutions to plastic pollution’ with a focus on combating plastic pollution was selected by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the theme for 2023. The theme of World Oceans Day 2023 chosen by the United Nations is ‘Planet Ocean: tides are changing’.

Da Nang has a separate brand on the environment, especially leading the country in environmental protection in 2021 and 2022. With the great efforts made by the city leaders and the active actions taken by each city dweller, Da Nang í on track to be cleaner, brighter and more environmentally friendly.

On the occasion of Action Month for the Environment, Viet Nam Sea and Islands Week, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment called on every citizen to focus on solving environmental problems quickly and in a timely manner, strictly manage the environment in industrial parks and in each enterprise.

In addition, it is a need to promote the economical use of resources in daily life, refuse to use unnecessary items, especially disposable plastic items, difficult-to-separate plastic bags, not to illegally consume, trade or exploit wild animals and plants; effectively and synchronously organize the classification and collection of solid waste at source, actively participate in planting trees and implement the movement ‘Green, clean and beautiful Sunday’.

On this occasion, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment awarded equipment and means to support waste sorting at source with a total value of VND400 million raised from international organisations and partners.
