Strong southwest winds at level 5, sometimes at level 6, and gustiness of level 7, as well as rough seas with waves as high as 2-3m are in forecast for the open waters off the Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau coast on Wednesday, according to Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. The warning is in effect for these areas for the next several days.

As per the national weather service, the severe weather in these areas is attributed to the combined effects of the intertropical convergence zone and low pressure area (LPA) over the East Sea.

LPA is expected to bring the threat of showers and thunderstorms to the Gulf of Tonkin, the offshore area stretching from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang, the Gulf of Thailand and the East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes). Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes and strong wind gusts, meteorologists at NCHMF said.

The forecast has indicated the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms with localized heavy falls over the Northern and Central regions during the daytime and night hours on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall of 20mm - 40mm is predicted in common across these areas with more than 70 mm of rain expected to dump at isolated places.

Widespread thundery showers and localized heavy downpours are likely to continue in Central Highlands and the Southern region for the next few days. The national forecasters predict widespread heavy rain over the Northern region and Thanh Hoa from June 8 into June 13.

National weather forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas. There are weather warnings for strong gusty winds and tornadoes, lightning, hail for these areas.

Today, best chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms will be likely at most places across the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan during the late afternoon and evening hours while heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places . These areas could experience the Southwest Winds at levels 2 to 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius and highs of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, even above 34 degrees Celsius at isolated places.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning area.
