A Da Nang student club lends helping hand to disadvantaged people

Established in 2015, L-Clup of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy under the University of Da Nang has acted as a bridge to connect generous donors with pediatric patients, orphans, and children in difficult circumstances. In addition, the club has been active in take part in a wide range of activities that provide environmental or social benefits.

Luong Hoang Anh who is a student of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Chairman of the L-CLUP said that since the beginning of 2023, the club has organized more than 5 social activities, such as environmental cleanups, free meals for patients with mental illness, children in difficult circumstances, and Other disadvantaged or vulnerable groups. In its efforts to raise funds for charitable activities, the L-CLUP periodically calls for financial support in addition to selling flowers and performing fundraising concerts.

Most recently, the club has performed its second fundraising music event which has taken place at a park in the eastern side of Dragon Bridge to fund a program called "Gift of love" for Hope Village for Orphans and Vulnerable Children located in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District.

According to Luong Hoang Anh, the fundraising event has been organized successfully, as well as raised nearly 10 million VND in financial support plus material support.

“We brought the children of Hope Village joy and showed them we care by giving all the money and milk which was raised during this fundraising event to them. The success of this event was mainly attributed to great efforts of volunteers and especially kindhearted donors," Hoang Anh said.

Luong Hoang Anh joined the club when he was still a student but he won the trust of his teachers and the club’s members to be voted as the club's chairman, and he has become the club’s leader for more than 1 year. Coming from a poor family in Vinh Son Commune, Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province, Hoang Anh has also received great deal of love and support from kindhearted people. He said his father died of a stroke more than 6 months ago so his sick mother hadto shoulder the burden of tuition fees for her two children. Sympathizing with financial difficulties faced by Hoang Anh's family, members of the club called for financial support from individuals and organization to help his family to get through difficult times.

From a small club consisting of young medical students and lecturers, the L-CLUP has till date attracted about 70 members who are students from Da Nang- based universities, including Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, and the University of Education.

Nguyen Thi Nha Uyen, the club’s treasurer, said that she wants to contribute to social and volunteering activities and she has found joy in taking part in the club’s activities.

“I has learnt positive values ​​from participating in the club's social and charitable activities, as I can expand my social circle in order to connect to someone through whom I meet many other people, thereby building a happy and compassionate friendship circle. In addition, taking part in these activities has helped me improve my soft skills, including problem- solving skills, negotiation skills, and event planning skills," Nha Uyen shared.

After 8 years of operation, the L-CLUP has become a benevolent place for students and lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the  University of Da Nang. The club’s members have made great efforts to perform dozens of successful events with thorough preparations . In particular, they focus on writing persuasive fundraising letters which are used to ask for donations from individuals and companies before performing each fundraising event. As a result, the club brings the material and spiritual gifts that come from the heart to poor patients and children in an abundant and regular way. Furthermore, the club’s members regularly participate in the city’s blood drives and environmental cleanups.

The club has been awarded a certificate of merit by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy for its dedication to Youth Union work and youth movements in the 2019-2022 period. In the coming time, the club will continue its efforts to perform social activities under the motto of "Love Connection" in order to ignite the spirit of volunteerism among young people to share the special gift of time and effort to help disadvantaged people.
