On Wednesday, the Da Nang General Hospital kicked off the satellite hospital plan in 2023 for district-level medical centres across the city. Specifically, from July to the end of December 2023, the hospital is in charge of receiving, training and transfers internal, surgical and artificial kidney techniques to district-level medical centres.

There are 14 techniques transferred such as basic gastrointestinal endoscopy; flexible bronchoscopy; basic artificial kidney; basic and advanced emergency resuscitation; surgery for thyroid diseases; maxillofacial trauma surgery; anesthesia and postoperative care.

The trained subjects are doctors currently working at district-level medical centres conducting practical training and technical transfer packages in the form of ‘hands-on work’.

Doctor Le Duc Nhan, the Director of the Da Nang General Hospital, said that the Satellite Hospital Project was approved by the municipal People's Committee and implemented in stages under which the Da Nang General Hospital and the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital are in charge of transferring medical techniques to satellite hospitals.

One of the solutions to ease severe patient overload at “core hospitals” in Da Nang with a vision to 2025 is to improve the professional capacity of district-level medical centres that act as the so-called “satellite hospitals”.

The implementation of this step promises “dual benefits” when “satellite hospitals” will be properly invested and upgraded, while the severe patient overload are relieved at “core hospitals”

In detail, the “nuclear hospital” conducts the transfer of its medical technique, and sends its medical staff to the “satellite hospital” for professional support, supervises the implementation of the transferred specialist packages and sets up a consultancy team for the satellite units.

In reality, doctors from “core hospitals” provide consultations though telemedicine, meaning patients with complicated conditions were handled right at the district level, thus reducing accident and fatality rates.

On-site training and technique transference strengthens along with after-training supervision in a great way to transfer modern surgery techniques.
