Da Nang's young people translate appreciation into meaningful activities for fallen soldiers and revolution contributors
The month of July is a time of showing respect and gratitude for fallen heroes for their sacrifices for the country's independence, freedom and peace. Da Nang’s young people are joining forces with the municipal government to carry out meaningful activities for heroic Vietnamese mothers, policy beneficiary families, and those who rendered great service to the nation in efforts to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to national contributors, contributing to promoting the Vietnamese traditions of "Repaying gratitude", and “When drinking water, remember its source.”

Caring for martyrs cemeteries
The Martyrs’ Cemetery is the final resting place for heroes who gave their lives fighting to the country’s independence and freedom. It is also a cultural place where meaningful activities are carried out to express gratitude to fallen soldiers, as well as teach patriotism to younger generations. Such activities are taking place at martyrs' cemeteries and monuments across the city to celebrate the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
Currently, the Martyrs Cemetery located in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District is the resting place of 1,172 soldiers who laid down their lives for national liberation and defense through different periods of time. Youth Union members in Hoa Tien Commune joined hands with local young people to re-paint all gravestones at their local martyrs cemetery as the paint has come out due to exposure to weather changes in mid-late June. A total of 20 people took part in this meaningful activity and cleanup operation in a bid to keep the final resting place for fallen soldiers clean and beautiful.
On the 14th and 30th dates of each lunar calendar month, members of the Youth Union Organization of Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Quy Ward and the Ward Chapter of the municipal War Veterans Association visit their local Martyrs' Cemetery where nearly 1,000 fallen soldiers are resting in peace in order to offer incense and conduct cleanups in order to show appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifices.
Such an activity has left a deep impressions on local residents, and it has been recognized and praised by local authorities.
Caring and support for revolution contributors
This year, the city's young people continues their meaningful activities to visit, give gifts, and help the families of war invalids, sick soldiers, people with meritorious services to the nation, as well as take care of heroic Vietnamese mothers.
Recently, Youth Union organizations of Hai Chau District and the Da Nang Government Department and Agency Block jointly have given 10 gifts, valued at VND 1 million each, to 10 former youth volunteers in Hai Chau District in a bid to show gratitude and care to these people in difficult circumstances.
In the coming time, the District’s Youth Union organization will work with the Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy to provide free medical checkups and treatment to 15 heroic Vietnamese mothers in the district and Quang Nam Province. Besides, the Youth Union organizations across the city will visit and give gifts to policy beneficiary families, as well as provide caring attention to heroic Vietnamese mothers. Furthermore, the heed will be paid to offering incense and laying wreaths in tribute to martyrs who sacrificed their lives on Gac Ma Island in Truong Sa (Viet Nam) on March 14, 1988, for the noble cause of protecting the country's sacred territorial waters, at the Nai Nam communal house in Hoa Cuong Nam Ward on the evening of July 27.
As part of a series of celebrations for the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, trips to Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces will be conducted by members of the Youth Union organization of the Da Nang Government Department and Agency Block. These trips aim to offer incense to pay tribute to fallen heroes, and give gifts to revolution contributors. During their stay in Quang Tri Province, Da Nang’s Youth Union members will offer incense and flowers to commemorate fallen combatants at the Truong Son National Martyrs and Quang Tri Ancient Citadel in addition to giving gifts to former youth volunteers in difficult circumstances. In Quang Binh Province, Da Nang’s visitors will visit the grave of late General Vo Nguyen Giap, give gifts and national flags to local fishermen, as well as present gifts to poor former youth volunteers.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thao, the Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union, the organization has encouraged young people across the city to spend their efforts and time taking part in meaningful activities to celebrate the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day. Included are embellishment and repair of Martyrs’ memorials and graves, free medical examination and medicines to policy beneficiary families, caring for national contrbutors, former youth volunteers, wounded and sick soldiers, and heroic Vietnamese mothers.
“The meaningful activities are being carried out in the city in an effective way in July, contributing to join hands with the municipal government to repay the gratitude to fallen heroes, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and soldiers, plus revolution contributors. At the same time, these activities help to teach patriotism and national pride to Da Nang’s young people, as well as increase their social responsibility," shared Anh Thao.
