Free skills courses open to poor children during their summer break in Da Nang
In response to the 2023 summer volunteer campaign and Da Nang’s plan to organize activities during summer vacation, districts across the city have been active in providing free skills courses for poor students to help them have a good summer.

Despite being on summer break, a bustling atmosphere is filling the Nui Thanh Primary School located in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District as around 80 primary and high school pupils are attending a free soft and life skills course which is taught by members of Hoa Cuong Bac Ward Skills Club.
Mr. Tran Minh Hoang, a youth union member in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, said that this course gives trainees the opportunity to learn communication skills, including Semaphore or Morse code by following trails set out in their local area, and presentation skills. Such a course will help trainees add skills to apply their knowledge in the real world.
Ho Minh Hung, a student of Phan Chau Trinh Senior High School, is among trainees who are attending the skills course at the Nui Thanh Primary School, said that, this is the first time he has attended such a course. Apart from learning about the essential skills he need to survive and thrive in life, as well as learning behaviours to improve both his academic and future career success, he has given a chance to make friends and meet new people while joining this course.
Tran Tuong Vy, a student of Tran Phu Senior High School remarked that he was really excited about attending such a course as these skills are beneficial not just to his academic success but also to his personal development.
During this year’s summer break, the Youth Union organization of Thanh Khe District’s Thanh Khe Dong Ward is offering a free course to help 30 pupils from primary and junior high schools, especially those in difficult circumstances learn English. In addition, other free courses are also open to children to help them learn photography and filmmaking, and more.
According to Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, the Secretary of the Youth Union organization of Thanh Khe Dong Ward, free courses are open to school pupils, especially those from poor families every summer, in order to help them have a good summer holiday and improve their foreign language skills, as well learn essential life skills.
In a similar vein, the Youth Union organization of Son Tra District’s An Hai Dong ward has planned to open a free English course for 40 primary and high school pupils since early July.
Mr Nguyen Thanh Tung, the Secretary of Son Tra District’s Youth Union organization , said that free courses have been offering to poor children across An Hai Dong, Phuoc My and Tho Quang wards in a bid to help them learn English and improve their foreign language skills. In addition, a free educational course from the Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted has offered to high school students, especially disadvantaged students in an attempt to help them improve their academic performance and have a good academic results in the next school year.
Similarly, these courses are available to school pupils, including those in difficult circumstances, across Hoa Minh, Hoa Hiep Bac and Hoa Hiep Nam wards of Lien Chieu District. These courses are open to them until mid-August.
The provision of free courses for school pupils, especially those from poor families is one of the practical activities that have been carrying out across the city during this summer.
Currently, free English courses are offering to a combined total of more than 300 school pupils across Da Nang. The intention is to not only help them improve their English skills but also create a fun and practical playground for them.
