Construction and installation of many important items

The March 29 Park is considered as a ‘green core’ in the city center. However, at present, the park is gradually degraded, the zoo is polluting, the amusement park is poor, and there are lacks of many services and facilities for the community.

Also, there are many green trees. However, due to the inconsistent planning adjustments, the beauty and coverage of a large park has not been promoted yet.

Worse still, the wastewater system of the surrounding residential areas discharges directly into the lake, making the lake water polluted and smelling, negatively affecting the image of the park and people's daily activities.

Therefore, it is necessary to upgrade and renovate the park in a bid to upgrade the infrastructure and landscape architecture, thereby creating a green highlight of the city center and serving the public needs of rest, relaxation and entertainment as well.

Faced with this necessity, the Da Nang People’s Committee has proposed the municipal People’s Council to consider and approve investment policy decision for the March 29 Park upgrade project.

Accordingly, VND 673,128 billion from the city budget will be asked for the project. Of the figure, the construction cost is estimated at around VND 272 billion, the site clearance cost at over VND 297 billion, and the equipment cost at nearly VND 29 billion.

The project will feature such items as site clearance and compensation for a 2,989m2 land area; the construction of a new architectural work ‘A ring of peace’, the entrance to the park on Nguyen Tri Phuong Street and public toilet areas; and the removal of a number of existing works and roads to renovate, upgrade and refresh the landscape.

Also, water supply, drainage, wastewater treatment and lighting systems, and outdoor fitness equipment will be installed, whilst rest areas for visitors will be created.

Getting concurrence and support from residents

With a dense density of trees and a large lake, the March 29 Park is dubbed a precious green lung of the city. The place is crowded with visitors who come to relax, entertain and go fishing on summer days. Therefore, when the city has a policy to upgrade and renovate this park, local residents show their active support and great concurrence.

Mrs. Tran Thi Kieu Ngan, residing in Thanh Khe Dong Ward, Thanh Khe District, remarked that the park has welcomed fewer visitors in recent years due to environmental pollution, poor amusement park, old and damaged equipment, and unpleasant odor zoo.

She affirmed that she strongly agreed and supported the March 29 Park upgrade project. Hopefully, after upgrade, the venue will still be a public park serving the community for free.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, a resident of Tan Chinh Ward, Thanh Khe District, said that thanks to its beautiful and spacious location, the park was an ideal entertainment place for local citizens. This place is associated with the memories of generations of Da Nang people. Currently, the park has been seriously degraded, so it is hoped that the authorities at all levels will soon implement the project to keep the city's green lung, meeting locals’ needs of cultural, sports and entertainment activities.

According to Director of the Culture and Sports Center of Thanh Khe District Vuong Tuan Kiet, the upgrading and renovation of the park is the common expectation of the people of Da Nang, especially in Thanh Khe District.

Previously, the Thanh Khe District People's Committee held a contest to design architectural plans for the upgrade of the March 29 Park. As a result, the ‘A ring of peace’ created by Singapore-based StudioMilou architecture firm surpassed 7 other entries to win the first prize and the community-selected award.

“As the unit assigned to manage the park, the Center will well perform the work of taking care of trees, and ensuring security, order and safety at the park to serve the needs of local. At the same time, we will coordinate with related units to implement the project in order to bring about socio-cultural efficiency and create a green highlight for the city center” Mr. Kiet emphasised.
