In recent days, when coming to the Man Quang Bay in Da Nang’s Son Tra District, it is very easy to see quite a lot of local people soaking their bodies in the brackish water to hunt for ‘so phi’, a species of hard-shell clams.
A person can earn VND300,000-VND500,000 per day of hunting for ‘so phi’ if it is favorable. Currently, 1 kilo of unwashed ‘so phi’ is being sold at the price of VND50,000 - VND70,000. Meanwhile, 1 kilo of soft body of ‘so phi’ is priced at VND120,000 - VND150,000, depending on the size.
According to Mr. Le Muoi, a resident of An Hai Tay Ward, due to the increase in demand for ‘so phi’ in the city, fishermen can earn high income from the hunting for this type of clams. However, hunters can face dangerous risks as their bodies are submerged in water for extended periods of time, and their feet are hurt by other clam shells.

Due to soaking in water and being exposed to the sun for a long time, many people often have headaches and fatigue in the knee joints. However, they make every effort to make ends meet. |
