The Division of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control under the Da Nang Department of Police is warning people to watch out for incoming calls or text messages from unknown numbers after receiving recent reports from some people in the city about getting frequent calls or text messages which were displayed as “YUND”.

The contents of text messages and phone calls from scammers included introducing their consulting services, convincing mobile phone users to buy their products or buy finance and investment course, introducing online collaboration jobs that help mobile phone users increase their income, and more.

These are criminal acts, usually aim at encouraging you to hand over money, or your personal or financial information.

It can be hard to tell if a spam text, or call is from a legitimate company or a scammer. For example, scammers could pretend to be from banks or large corporations, or they might claim to be from mobile network operators or internet service providers.

Scam callers and texters almost always seek financial gain. They might try to trick you into making an immediate payment to them or an associate, or they may be trying to get enough information about you to steal your identity. They may even try to fool you into giving them remote control of your computer, so they can read your emails or banking information or other confidential information. If they can successfully pretend to be you, or learn your account passwords, they might steal from your bank account, buy things with your credit card, or incur other debts in your name.

The Division of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control is urging residents to stay vigilant against scam calls and texts. Local people are advised not to answer or return any calls or text messages from suspicious mobile phone numbers. If you feel that you are a victim of a phone or text message scam, you can file a complaint or report at your nearest police station.
