Join efforts to support disadvantaged children
Da Nang now has more than 310,000 children, of which, nearly 3,200 have special circumstances, and over 13,400 are at risk of falling into special circumstances. Childcare, education and protection have been well implemented by Party organisations, authorities, agencies and units at all levels across the city.

In order to improve the effectiveness of support for children in the city, over the past time, the Children's Protection Fund under the municipal Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has increased the mobilisation of resources from domestic organisations and businesses, as well as carried out programmes and projects funded by the Assemblies of God in Australia World Relief (AOGWR), the Viet Nam Children's Fund, etc. in an effort to support disadvantaged children.
In June, the Da Nang Children's Protection Fund coordinated with the Hoa Vang District chapter of the municipal Women's Union to give means of livelihoods to 13 poor and disadvantaged women whose children receive financial support from local authorities. Total funding for the livelihood support was VND80 million funded by AOGWR.
Mrs. Le Thu Sa, the Vice President of the Hoa Vang District chapter of the municipal Women's Union, highlighted the practical significance of the activity in creating conditions for its poor members to develop production, escape out of poverty and stabilise their lives.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said that, over the past years, the local Children's Fund has actively called on sponsors, organisations, and business communities in the city to support poor pupils to enable them to follow their academic aspirations.
Also, the Fund’s Management Board has actively got involved in mobilising organisations to support children's health care, and donate means of livelihood to poor women to stabilise their lives.
In the first half of 2023, the municipal Children's Fund worked with Hoa Phu and Hoa Ninh communes, both in Hoa Vang District, to organise the programme ‘Spring of Love 2023’.
Accordingly, 100 Tet gifts, totalling VND30 million, were given to children with special circumstances; 40 scholarships, worth VND40 million, to poor studious pupils; and VND6 million to two children suffering from serious diseases.
Along with that, the Fund cooperated with the AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Company and the Bao Viet Da Nang Life Company to donate 94 bicycles and gifts, totalling over VND172 million, to poor studious children in districts of Thanh Khe, Ngu Hanh Son and Hai Chau.
It cooperated with the Vinamilk Dairy Company to implement the programme ‘Viet Nam Dairy Fund’ in 2023.
Accordingly, in the first phase, 53,550 cartons of milk (180 ml type), valued at over 350 million VND, were provided for 595 children at 8 social protection establishments in the city.
Moreover, free screening tests for the early detection of congenital heart complaints were provided for 4,790 poor children in the city.
The fund and AOGWR jointly supported livelihoods for 13 poor and disadvantaged women in Hoa Vang District with a budget of VND80 million; and at the same time donated 8 cerebral palsy wheelchairs, worth more than VND32 million in total, to severely disabled children.
