Mild heat wave likely to continue in Central Viet Nam a few more days

A weather warning for moderate to heavy rain with localized extremely heavy falls and a chance of scattered thunderstorms has been issued for the mountains and midlands of Northern Viet Nam by Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. The warning is in place for these areas on Monday. Heavy falls are expected to produce rain totals between 50mm and 120 mm, with isolated totals of over 180mm.

Meanwhile, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms at most places with heavy falls at isolated places are also likely over the remaining part of the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An today. Rain amounts are forecast to generally average between 20mm and 40 mm with more than 70mm possible in some places, in a 24 hour period.

Moderate to heavy rain at most places with localized very heavy downpours is expected to continue in the mountains and midlands of Northern Viet Nam on Tuesday, August 8. Rainfall amount of 15mm – 30 mm is predicted in common across these areas with more than 50 mm of rain expected to dump at isolated places.

National weather forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas, national forecasters has warned.

Mild heat wave is sweeping much parts of Central Viet Nam, especially parts from Quang Tri to Ninh Thuan, including Da Nang, and it may continue for the next several days.

The high temperatures continue through these areas, on Monday and Tuesday. Sweltering temperatures will see these areas bake at 35-37 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is likely to touch over the 37-degrees Celsius mark in some places. The lowest humidity level in these localities will be between 50% and 55%.

On Monday, sunshine is forecast for central parts from Quang Tri to Thua Thien - Hue and there is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours in some places. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 31-34 degrees Celsius, and even upper 34 degrees Celsius in northern part of the region, and 35-37 degrees Celsius, and even above 37 degrees Celsius in the southern part while minimum temperature will be in the range of 26-29 degrees Celsius.

Heat is continuing to bake the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today with scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and evening hours in Binh Thuan. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 26 to 29 degrees Celsius and highs of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius, even above 37 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
