Thundery showers possible in Northern Viet Nam and North Central Coast, sweltering heat continues to bake central region

Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said widespread thundery showers with localized heavy falls are likely to occur across Northern Viet Nam, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An on Tuesday. Rain amounts are forecast to generally average between 15mm and 30 mm with more than 70mm possible in some places.

National weather forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas, national forecasters has warned.

Heat is continuing to bake much of Central Viet Nam on Tuesday, with the parts from Ha Tinh to Ninh Thuan seeing the temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, and even above 37 degrees Celsius at isolated places. Today, sweltering temperatures will see the parts from Thua Thien Hue to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, bake at 36-38 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is likely to touch over the 38-degrees Celsius mark in some places. The lowest humidity level in these localities will be between 45% and 60%.

People are urged to take caution amid expected "adverse health effects" among the population in the affected areas.

While it will be an "exceptionally" hot for the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien - Hue on Tuesday, it will not be an overly sunny day. Clouds will cover these areas for much of the day, with only intermittent sunny spells forecast. There is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms with localized moderate to heavy rain during late afternoon and night hours in some places. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 35-37 degrees Celsius, and even upper 37 degrees Celsius in some places, while minimum temperature will be in the range of 25-28 degrees Celsius. In particular, the parts from Thanh Hoa - Nghe An will see a bit of weather relief today with the highest temperature expected to stay at 33-34 degrees Celsius as the national weather agency predicted showers and thunder in these areas.

Scorching temperatures will continue in the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today with scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius and highs of 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, even above 38 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
