In their efforts to make sure that hot porridge is hand-delivered for free to poor patients, the club's members wake up at 2:00 am to prepare a delicious and healthy meal for them. Every week, the club arranges its 5-7 members to cook porridge and hand-deliver it to disadvantaged patients across the city.
Nguyen Huu Vu, 24, a club member, who has participated in this charity work over the past 6 years, said: "I don't have much experience in the kitchen. However, I always try my best to learn how to choose the freshest ingredients such as root and tuber vegetables, plus meat to make perfect porridge, and ensure that porridge is healthy and delicious for the patients. Our club members are divided into different tasks to prepare porridge for poor patients. Those who can cook well will stay in the kitchen while others will prepare ingredients and kitchen tools. Each group will offer about 300 servings of porridge and bread, totaling more than VND 2 million, to disadvantaged patients across the city."
The 67 Motorcycle Club is a gathering place for those who share the same passion for this motorcycle model. The club was granted a license to operate in 2018 by the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports. It now has about 10 official members. Each member of the club has different circumstances and performs different jobs, and has their different personalities, but they all share the same desire for extending their hands to offer sharing and caring towards the disadvantaged and poor patients.
The fund for this charity activity was initially funded by voluntary contributions from the club’s members. This meaningful activity then drew great deal of attention from local communities, with regular contributions from generous donors in order to support and maintain the operation of this charity kitchen for a long period of time.
Mr Nguyen Minh Duc is currently living and working in Germany but he has become a regular donor for more than 5 years to make contributions for the club’s charity activity. Duc said that he never misses a chance to join hands with the Club's members to offer free porridge to disadvantaged patients every time he visits his hometown in Viet Nam.
“Despite having lived and worked in Germany, I still pay special attention to the club's free porridge program for poor patients, and its other charitable activities. I remember one time when I came home late after being outside with my friends, I was afraid of being late to the club chairman’s house so I drove my motorbike to go straight to his house, and slept outside the main gate entrance to his house in order to wait for the club’s members to come to cook porridge together," Mr. Minh Duc recalled.
Members of the 67 Motorcycle Club are considered "wanderers". Apart from offering free porridge to poor patients, the Club also implements its annual charity program to help school pupils in mountainous districts of Tay Giang, Dong Giang, and Nam Tra My, all in Quang Nam Province. The intention is to give gifts and grant scholarships to poor studious pupils in remote areas in an effort to help them overcome poverty to continue their studies, and achieve their dreams and goals.
On weekend morning, our reporters joined the club’s members for offering porridge to disadvantaged patients, we felt their kindness through their acts of greetings and thoughtfulness towards porridge recipients. They hope that more people will extend their helping hands to others in need, including disadvantaged patients, poor students, and the needy, in an attempt to assist them find the strength to overcome their illness, and achieve their dreams, as well as get out of poverty.
