The event provided an opportunity for women officials and union members to share their thoughts, aspirations, suggestions and recommendations on issues related to the emulation movement and women’s work.

Discussions at the event focused on preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children; urban order; policies for union officials; life of female workers; and "Godmother" programme.

Delivering his closing speech, municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh highly praised the local Women’s Union for its remarkable achievements in recent years, as well as the sense of responsibility of the association's staff and women from all walks of life in building and developing a rich, beautiful, civilised city.

He requested the city’s Confederation of Labour to coordinate with businesses to conduct surveys about the needs of workers who are working in industrial parks citywide; as well as report to the city for solutions related to housing programmes, social apartments, and land funds for constructing kindergartens.

Importance should be attached to effectively implementing the "Godmother" programme, and issuing humanitarian policies for needy people such as tuition waivers, scholarship support, health insurance and other essential needs for orphans, especially orphans in difficult circumstances, he emphasised.

Also at the event, the municipal Women's Union awarded medals "For the Development of Vietnamese Women" to leaders of departments, divisions and units in recognition of their great contribution to the union’s work.

Fourteen women who are presidents of the grassroots women's unions with work experience of 15 years or more were honoured at the programme.

On the occasion, the Tradition Room - a place to preserve and educate about the proud and glorious traditions of generations of women through historical periods from 1930 to the present - was inaugurated.
