Raising awareness and action on occupational safety and hygiene
It is high time for Party committees, agencies, units, and the business community at all levels in Da Nang to raise awareness about the role and importance of occupational safety and hygiene (OSH), as well as thoroughly grasp and fully implement the guiding documents of the national and municipal governments on OSH in order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers, and the lives and property of people and businesses.

The statement was made by municipal People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh at a meeting on Wednesday to review the implementation of Directive No. 29 dated September 18, 2013 of the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee on strengthening labor safety and hygiene in the period of industrialisation, modernisation and international integration in Da Nang over the past decade.
Chairman Chinh acknowledged and praised branches and localities at grassroots level for their great efforts in seriously implementing Directive No. 29, and remarkable achievements in ensuring OSH, thereby contributing to curbing labor accidents, ensuring social security, and creating favourable conditions for the city’s socio-economic development.
The city leader stressed the need to raise awareness of laws on labour safety, and food hygiene and safety among employees and employers.
Importance should be attached to maintaining and improving the quality of the Action Month for Food Safety and Hygiene, and the Action Month for OSH every year, he added.
Besides, heed should be on innovating information and propaganda work in the business community, residential areas, officials, party members and people of all walks of life in many forms, contributing to raising awareness of implementing criteria for ensuring OSH in the city, Mr. Chinh noted.
According to reports at the meeting, after 10 years of implementing Directive No. 29, Party committees, authorities at local level, and social organisations at all levels have had profound changes in awareness and action in ensuring OSH as a regular task.
Many large enterprises and labour employers are paying more attention to setting up an OSH team, arranging full-time staff to monitor OSH work, having medical staff and being equipped with a number of common medical facilities and equipment, and developing labour, safety and hygiene regulations at the workplace.
Thanks to that, the lives and health of workers have been guaranteed, thereby creating a safe working environment, and promoting business development.
On the occasion, the municipal People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 6 units and 4 individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in implementing Directive No. 29.
