The direction was made by Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong at a meeting on Friday to review the implementation of the National Target Programme for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the 2021-2025 period over the past 3 years.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Cuong highly appreciated great efforts made by sectors, localities and units at all levels in implementing the National Target Programme for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the 2021-2023 period.
He emphasised that the abovementioned results have significantly contributed to the city's economic, cultural and social development achievements, shortening the rich-poor gap between the population classes, and ensuring progress and social justice.
Mr. Cuong took the opportunity to ask relevant agencies to promote propaganda of poverty reduction policies and solutions in diverse forms to people, especially poor households. The focus should be on mobilising resources for sustainable poverty reduction, and closely and synchronously combining the implementation of poverty reduction goals with economic - cultural - social development plans in each area.
Between 2021 and 2023, the city has effectively implemented many programmes and policies to support poverty reduction, with a total budget of VND748.5 billion.
Specifically, VND12.7 billion has been poured into the building of 248 new houses for poor families, and VND17.45 billion into repairing 961 downgraded ones.
Meanwhile, the city has reduced by 50% of apartment rental fees for nearly 1,200 poor and near-poor households; arranged 44 apartments for poor households in particularly difficult circumstances; and supported electricity bills for 31,415 poor families, at a total cost of more than VND21.7 billion.
The city branch of the Viet Nam Bank for Social Policy has coordinated with localities to disburse loans totalling VND171.79 billion to 3,677 needy households to serve production and business, economic development, and income improvement.
The city has provided 148,696 health insurance cards, totalling VND106.48 billion, for those from poor and near-poor households. Units and localities have offered free medical examination and treatment to 23,463 people, with a total cost of VND9.46 billion.
Besides, over VND31.3 billion has been allocated to implement the tuition exemption and reduction for nearly 50,820 poor pupils. A total sum of VND23.73 billion has been raised to give scholarships and learning tools to 31,525 poor studious pupils.
Over the past 3 years, relevant sectors and units have supported job placement for 4,272 poor, near-poor, and low-income workers; as well as sent 50 workers to work abroad and 288 agricultural workers to join short-term training in South Korea.
Thanks to the synchronous and effective implementation of poverty reduction solutions, 2,703 and 5,475 poor households were escaped from poverty in 2021, and in the 2022-2023 period, respectively.
On the occasion, the municipal People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 9 collectives and 9 individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in implementing the emulation movement "For the poor - leaving no one behind".
