This distinguished award recognized Da Nang as one of the best cities in Viet Nam to build a smart, green, and clean environmental management city associated with smart city development. In particular, the city has set up a system of 66 automatic environmental monitoring stations, 15 automatic sampling systems, digitization of waste discharge point data on the GIS platform, implementation of garbage truck journey monitoring, monitoring management system, publicizing environmental information, and more.
VINASA also praised Da Nang for its system of 74 surveillance cameras in the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port for monitoring security, and the environment, as well as quickly detecting cases of illegal wastewater discharge into the environment. As a result, the environmental pollution situation at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port has been improved significantly, and this place is no longer an environmental pollution hot spot in the city.
Indeed, images from the 74-camera surveillance system at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port have been sent to the Son Tra District Office of Natural Resources and Environment for the purpose of monitoring, and assessing environmental protection efforts.
In their efforts to quickly identify and deal with cases of environmental violations, staff at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port are tasked with routinely monitoring and monitoring images captured from 74 cameras.
Recently, fines totaling more than VND 500 million have been imposed on over 180 cases of environmental violations.
Mr Pham Trung Thanh, the Deputy Head of the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port Management Board, stated that the unit works closely with border guards and environmental police to inspect and strictly punish violations and breaches of environmental regulations.
In order to promptly implement environmental protection measures and treatment plans, the Management Board also continuously coordinates with relevant units to take samples to periodically monitor indicators of the air and water quality at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port . Additionally, business households and vehicle owners in this area are required to sign a commitment to comply with environmental regulations, provide themselves with trash bins, and properly dispose of trash. The above outcomes were greatly appreciated by the Smart City Award Organizing Board.
According to Mr Dang Quang Vinh, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the city has built a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System that is used to monitor and control the process of pumps to remove waste from the collection areas across the city.
The municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment receives all data on water quality and treatment through automated wastewater monitoring stations that have been built in all industrial parks, including Da Nang Hi-Tech Park.
The city has also built a document storage for the environment and natural resources sector, created a management subsystem to monitor water resource exploitation and use based on state management and database software specializing in this sector. Heed has been paid to providing online public services at level 4 to locals and businesses.
This is the second time Da Nang has won a such prestigious award, and the city’s remarkable achievement has been attributed to great efforts of the city's leaders, authorities at local level, department and agencies, businesses, along with locals and tourists to protect the environment.
In its efforts to ensure successful implementation of a project to develop Da Nang into an eco- friendly city during the 2021-2030 period, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment will continue its efforts to work with relevant units to boost cooperation with smart cities at home and aboard, especially such foreign countries as Japan and South Korea in line with the Resolution No. 43 dated January 24, 2019 issued by the Politburo on construction and development of Da Nang to 2030, vision to 2045,
