Nguyen Thi Minh Thu with a banking and finance degree from the Da Nang University of Economics has decided to resign from her job to join the service.

“My father has joined border guard force as an enlisted member. Since my childhood, I have dreamed of wearing a military uniform. Joining the service will offer me the opportunity to support my personal development effectively, as well as contribute to my country. I want to have a more meaningful life through joining the service, so that my future won’t hold any regrets," Thu said

The Nai Hien Dong Ward authorities have set up their selective service program to register eligible people for military service in line with the 2024 recruitment plan for the military. In addition, heed has been paid to increasing public awareness about the national law on military service.

Furthermore, importance has been attached to launching awareness raising campaigns, paying visits, and giving gifts to young people who voluntarily enlisted themself as a soldier in the army, as well as honouring them for voluntary enlistment. As a result, the ward has witnessed an increasing number of young voluntary recruits to military service year on year.

In particular, a total of 25 eligible young people have already applied for voluntary enlistment into the military service in 2024 as they are ready to dedicate their youth to the country.

Mr. Le Thanh Tuan Khanh, the commander in- chief of the Military Command Board based in Nai Hien Dong Ward, remarked that each application of these young people carries a sense of responsibility with a desire to make contributions to national construction and defense while upholding the noble traditions of Vietnamese youth.

Similarly, the Military Command Board based in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, has received two applications from 24-year-old female graduates, namely Nguyen Thi Mai Hoa and Nguyen Thuy Nga for voluntary enlistment into the army. Despite having completed their university education, both have decided to temporarily set aside their careers to fulfill their military dreams.

Nga expressed her optimism, saying, "In military environment, females face more challenges than males, but I am mentally prepared. I promise to exert myself to fulfill my duties."

Ms. Pham Tran Truc Mai, the Secretary of the Youth Union Organization of Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, said that voluntary enlistment of two educated and healthy young women is the ultimate source of joy for local young people, thereby inspiring them to follow.

"I hope that the military environment will help them mature, live disciplined lives, and be united, healthy, and worthy successors to the future of the country," Mai said.

Commander in-chief Le Kim Nghia of the Military Command Board based in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward said that Mai Hoa applied for voluntary military service in 2022, but she failed to register for selective service due to myopia discovered during her medical examination. However, driven by a desire to join the service, Mai Hoa underwent eye treatment with the hope of becoming a servicewoman in 2024.

According to Mr. Nghia, voluntary enlistment into the army has become a precious tradition for the youth in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward. Each of young people who voluntarily enlisted themself as a soldier has a different set of circumstances, but shows love for their hometown and country. Many young people in the ward are willing to set aside their personal and family interests to make contributions to the country.
