In the early days of 2024, along the Qua Giang 1 rural road in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Da Nang’s Hoa Vang Suburban District, Mr. Nguyen Xuan, a robust middle-aged man became a familiar sight on rural streets. With a broom in one hand and a garbage-collecting tool in the other, he diligently picked up plastic bags, dry leaves, and litter from the road's bushes, depositing them into trash bins. Mr. Xuan is the Chairman of the Veterans Organization and the Chairman of the Environmental Club in Qua Giang 1 Village.

Mr. Xuân highlighted the important role of members of the Village’s Veterans Organization in keeping the environment clean. Their active engagement in the ‘Green, Clean and Beautiful Sunday’ campaign has inspired the villagers to follow and join hands with them to keep their village beautiful.

The image of veteran Nguyen Xuan who diligently cleans a 500-meter route every day becomes familiar with the villagers.

Mr. Xuan believes that the environment is crucial for our well-being. A green, clean landscape enhances human health, and helps prevent diseases, especially infectious ones. In his current roles as the Chairman of the Veterans Organization and the Environmental Club of the Qua Giang 1 Village, he has set a shining example of environmental protection to others .

"I work as a security guard at the Hoa Phuoc Kindergarten in the Giang Nam 1 Village. In my free time, I habitually pick up trash from local roads. Every time I do, I envision a clean road with happy passersby, especially enthusiastic children going to school. It brings me joy," Mr. Xuan shared with a smile.

The Qua Giang 1 Veterans Organization, with 27 members, has been active in promoting the noble virtues of Uncle Ho's soldiers to get involved in environmental protection after retirement from the military. Over the past four years, regardless of the weather conditions, members of  the Village’s Environmental Club are actively engaged in cleanup operations every Sunday. Included are clearing overgrown shrubs and trees encroaching onto or over road that restrict the horizontal and vertical sight distance of the roadway in efforts to ensure the safety for road users, dredging the drainage system in the Giang Nam 1 Village. Their efforts make their village greener, cleaner, and more beautiful.
