Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Ho Ky Minh acknowledged and highly praised the association’s outstanding results over the past year.

He also said that, in recent times, the city’s government has paid special attention to social welfare work, including a monthly social subsidy policy for the elderly aged 75 to 80 years old without salary or allowance, providing social insurance or social benefits, increasing the level of house repair support for poor households, and giving monthly allowances to people with serious illnesses, including the elderly.

Vice Chairman Minh asked the Association to continue caring for and taking care of the lives and needs of the elderly in the city, as well as mobilise socialisation resources to visit and support the elderly in difficult circumstances, in 2024.

The focus should be on encouraging the elderly to get actively involved in building the Party and government; protecting national security, environmental sanitation and urban civilisation; and helping each other do good business, he added.

Currently, the city has 98,980 elderly members, of which 12,937 elderly people are party members.
