Da Nang's campaign to beautify rail tracks produces positive outcomes
Over past year, Da Nang’s ‘Residents of all ages join efforts to protect rail tracks" and ‘Train route on the flower path’ campaigns produced positive outcomes as these campaigns helped raise public awareness about the dangers of being near railroad tracks and crossings, thereby contributing to achieving a reduction in train accident risk in the city.

In December 2023, the Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company worked with the Vietnam Railway Corporation, the Traffic Police Department, and the Nguyen Phu Huong Junior High School located in Hoa Vang District to hold a ceremony to sign a commitment to engage teenagers in ensuring traffic safety on the railway transport, as well as to launch the campaigns to protect and beautify rail tracks.
After the commitment signing ceremony, the forces participated in cleanup operations by clearing, and trimming back areas on or around railways, as well as urging local residents to protect and preserve rail corridors in order to ensure that the railroad will be clear and trains will travel smoothly and efficiently.
Furthermore, local war veterans and school pupils planted 250 bougainvillea trees on land patches near railway tracks running through Duong Son, Le Son Bac, and Le Son Nam villages in Hoa Vang District in response to the campaign to beautify rail tracks.
The Hoa Tien Commune’s Veterans’ organization joined hands with local relevant units to engage local residents in protecting and preserving railway tracks running through the commune in a bid to ensure environmental cleanliness, and strict adherence to the national law related to railway traffic. Additionally, they worked with the Railway Inspectorate, Traffic Police Unit, and relevant agencies to take action against violations of safety regulations, including throwing rocks at trains, placing obstacles on railway tracks, and theft of railway materials.
In addition, the Nguyen Phu Huong Junior High School focused on honoring its pupils for their efforts in preventing violations of the Railway Law and safety regulations. The school also worked with local functional bodies, the Veterans’ organization, and the railway sector to educate its pupils about protecting and caring for flowering trees along the railway tracks. Heed was paid to reporting any destructive actions or flower theft to functional units in a bid to ensure the effective implementation of the campaign to beautify rail tracks.
Mr. Tran Dinh Thuyen, the Chairman of the Hoa Tien Commune Veterans’ organization, emphasized that the participation of three generations in a family in the campaign to join efforts to protect rail tracks helped integrate the strength of three generations and break the perceived barrier of the generation gap. Also, he expressed confidence that their solidarity and determination can overcome any challenges to ensure that this campaign is implemented in an effective manner.
Since the beginning of 2023, the Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Company has actively participated in the ‘Train route on the flower path’ campaign by conducting cleanup operations and cultivating flowers on land patches near railway tracks across Da Nang.
Between July and December 2023, a combined total of 250 bougainvillea trees and 1,000 Cereus jamacaru trees were planted along around 5km-long rail corridor stretching from Hoa An to Hoa Phat wards of Cam Le District. Besides, over 200 flowering trees, including orchids, hibiscus, and daisies, were cultivated at the Da Nang Railway Station in an attempt to create a clean, green, safe, and environmentally- friendly railway corridor.
These campaigns have been launched across the city, with cultivated flowering trees tailored to climate and soil conditions of particular locality or region. This approach aligns with local orientations, making it convenient for tourists to identify each region of Viet Nam based on cultivated flowering plants along railway tracks.
Mr. Hoang Hai, the Deputy Director of Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Company said that the company would continue its efforts to beautify railway tracks in order to make Vietnamese railways more inviting to domestic and international visitors. This effort also aims to raise public awareness about rail safety, contributing to creating a healthy living environment and a sustainable ecosystem.
