Nearly VND40 billion raised for 'For the Poor' Fund

In his remarks at the meeting on Tuesday to review the mobilisation, management and use of the "For the Poor" fund in 2023, Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee in Da Nang Ngo Xuan Thang asked relevant units and members to continue to mobilise resources to support the poor and carry out social welfare work in 2024, as well as promote the implementation of the city's sustainable poverty reduction programme over the 2023 - 2025 period.

In addition, special attention will be paid to taking care of poor households, disadvantaged workers, and employees facing unexpected difficulties in industrial parks so that they can celebrate a warm and happy Tet.

Chairman Thang revealed that the city will spend a total of VND440 million on presenting 19,671 Tet gifts to near-poor and disadvantaged families, and members of the Association for Victims of Agent Orange / Dioxin, the Association of the Blind, the Association of Disabled People, the Association of Patriotic Prisoners, the Association for Supporting Orphans and the Disabled, the Association of Former Youth Volunteers, the Association of Former Teachers, and the Association of the Elderly; as well as supporting ethnic minority groups in Hoa Phu, Hoa Bac and Hoa Ninh communes in Hoa Vang District.

According to a report released by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee in Da Nang, nearly VND40 billion was raised for the "For the Poor" Fund from generous organisations, units, businesses and individuals, exceeding 159.9% of the plan.

Of the figure, more than VND10.4 billion went to build 105 new "Great Solidarity" houses and repairing 296 downgraded ones, over VND1.9 billion to provide means of livelihood for 358 people, VND450.5 million to offer free medical checkups and treatment to 105 people, and more than VND3.1 billion to grant scholarships to 3,191 poor students.

As of December 15, 2023, the city’s Relief Board had received VND200 million from the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and VND500 million from the Long An Provincial Relief Board to overcome difficulties caused by natural disasters and floods.

During the year, over VND5.4 billion was poured into giving more than 10,400 gifts to needy people in the city, and repairing houses damaged by storms for people in Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts.
