Traffic accidents nationwide continue to decrease
Deputy Prime Minister cum Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Tran Luu Quang, on Tuesday, chaired a national online conference in Ha Noi to review the performance of ensuring traffic order and safety in 2023, as well as identify tasks for 2024.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang highly praised great efforts made by ministries, branches and localities in the past year for ensuring traffic order and safety, significantly contributing to reducing the numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries.
He asked relevant agencies to effectively implement the theme "Understanding the Law to Build a Safe Traffic Culture" with the goal of abiding by laws and creating motivation to raise awareness of voluntarily obeying traffic rules, gradually building a safe traffic culture for society.
He also urged relevant authorities to speed up progress and ensure the quality of projects to upgrade traffic infrastructure and strengthen inspections of means of transport.
Importance should be attached to strengthening inspections, and strictly handling violations of traffic safety regulations to assure traffic safety and order, meeting people’s travelling demand, especially during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival.
According to Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, in 2023, the number of traffic accidents reduced compared with 2022, with the number of traffic accidents decreased 1,285 cases or 5.5% and deaths declined 1,922 persons or 14.18%.
Accordingly, 33 centrally run provinces and cities recorded a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2022, of which, Da Nang was one of 11 localities with a reduction of over 20% in the number of deaths.
In 2023, a combined total of 144 traffic accidents occurred across the city, killing 43 people and injuring 141 others, with an estimated 511 million VND in property damage. The figures showed a decrease of 62 in the number of accidents, deaths by 13, and injuries by 85 against 2022.
In 2024, the city will take drastic measures and strive to reduce the numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries.
