Banh chung, consisting of glutinous rice and fillings made of mung beans as well as fatty pork, is a requisite dish for Tet. Stachyphrynium placentarium leaves, known as ‘la dong’ in Vietnamese, are used for wrapping ‘banh chung’ that is later tied  with bamboo strings.

The contest, themed ‘Green Banh Chung - Spring of Connection - Tet of Love’, was organised by the Thanh Khe Tay Ward administration in Thanh Khe District, Da Nang from February 4 to 8 for residential areas throughout the ward.

Under the contest’s rules, the contestants competed at wrapping, cooking, and giving ‘banh chung’ to poor and disadvantaged households in residential areas.

The event aimed at calling on residents from all walks of life to support those living in particularly difficult circumstances with the message ‘Let no one be left behind’ at Tet.

The contest brought an atmosphere of joy, excitement, cohesion, warmth, neighborhood reunion as well as aroused the spirit of solidarity and love in the community. The contest also honoured, preserved and promoted the Tet holiday traditions of the Vietnamese people.

As a result of the contest, more than 1,200 cakes were initially given to poor and disadvantaged households with particularly difficult circumstances in the ward’s residential areas.
