On Wednesday (the 28th day of the 12th lunar month), over 30 free coaches took 1,300 poor immigrant workers back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet, as part of the Da Nang Labour Confederation-organised ‘Trade Union Tet Journey’ programme 2024.

From early morning, a large number of trade union members and immigrant workers gathered at the Da Nang Exhibition and Convention Center for free home-coming buses to celebrate Tet.

Mr. Le Xuan Tien, hailing from Quang Binh Province, said he found it very difficult to book a coach to go home for Tet at the end of the year. Therefore, his family felt very lucky to take part in the programme offering free home-coming buses for Tet celebration. This is the 7th year his family has registered for a free bus trip, which helped him save money.

Registered for a free Trade Union bus for the first time, Mr. Thai Manh Hung whose hometown is in Nghe An Province felt very happy and was eager to the free bus service.

“In recent years, my family have had to celebrate Tet away from home because of the pandemic and difficult economic situation. This year, thanks to the free Trade Union bus, my family can return home to celebrate with parents and grandparents” he noted.

Mr. Hung hoped this meaningful programme would continue in many more years, so that workers far from home like him can have the opportunity to celebrate Tet with their families.

In particular, the farthest destination in Northern Viet Nam is Thanh Hoa Province, in Southern Viet Nam is Phu Yen Province and in the Central Highlands is Dak Lak Province.

On such free rides, each trade union member is supported with a free lunch meal worth VND100,000 each from the city's Confederation of Labour.
