Coast guards accompany fishermen
Under the Coordination Programme No. 06-CTr/TU-ĐUCSB on March 16, 2021, between the Standing Board of the Da Nang Party Committee and the Standing Board of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 2 has collaborated with the Da Nang Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Board to mobilise people to effectively implement the Party’s policies and the State’s laws on maritime and island security, as well as support fishermen to overcome difficulties and feel secure while going offshore fishing.

Accompanying fishermen
Mr Bui Nguyen Tan Phong, Head of the Son Tra District’s Mass Mobilisation Board cum Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee in Son Tra District, stated that under the programme "Coast Guards Accompany Fishermen", the municipal Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Board has worked with the Coast Guard Region 2 High Command to support and educate fishermen in the district, especially in four coastal wards of Tho Quang, Man Thai, Nai Hien Dong, and Phuoc My.
“Through the program, the Mass Mobilisation Board has directed localities to educate fishermen on legal compliance, support those in difficult circumstances, and encourage flying the national flag while fishing offshore and participating in maritime sovereignty protection activities" Mr. Phong emphasised.
Just returning from several days at the sea, Mr Dang Van Nhat, Head of Thanh Dat Production Group in Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District, shared that they have recently received battery support and 10 kilograms of net ropes from the State for fishing, as well as facilitated to attend training sessions for timely updates.
The establishment of production groups has helped them support each other during sea mishaps and regularly inform each other about fish schools to achieve high yields.
In 2023 alone, the High Command of the Coast Guard Region 2, in collaboration with the Da Nang Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Board, visited, encouraged, and gave 370 gifts, totalling VND 370 million, to social policy families, fishermen, ethnic minorities, and religious people in difficult circumstances.
To encourage fishermen to head out to sea, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Secretary of the Nai Hien Dong Ward Party Committee, said that during the early-year fishing trips, police, border guards, and military forces often visited and gave gifts and national flags to fishermen.
Under the “Coast Guards Accompany Fishermen” programme, 30 gifts were presented to disadvantaged residents in the ward in 2023.
In 2024, the two units also gave 20 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to 20 key fishermen, and organised training courses on maritime and island security to fishermen.
“I love my homeland's sea and islands” contest
Not only propagating and informing about maritime and island situations to mass mobilisation officers of wards and party cells residential groups, the High Command of the Coast Guard Region 2 and the municipal Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Board have promoted education in schools by organising the “I love my homeland's sea and islands” contest.
In 2023, more than 6,200 pupils from five junior high schools in Thanh Khe District took part in the abovementioned contest. The event became a useful playground, contributing to legal education, and evoking love for the homeland, national pride, and protection of maritime sovereignty among the youth.
At the contest, 50 scholarships and 20 bicycles were awarded to 70 diligent students. Previously, more than 10,000 students from 11 junior high schools in Lien Chieu and Son Tra districts actively participated in the similar contest.
Sharing about this useful playground, Mr Pham Hong Quang, Deputy Head of the Lien Chieu District’s Mass Mobilisation Board, said that through the “I love my homeland's sea and islands” contest and the drawing contest entitled “Sea, islands of the homeland and coast guard soldiers”, participants in the district have been educated on legal documents about the sea and islands, the tradition of the Viet Nam Coast Guard and the High Command of the Coast Guard Region 2, the harms of drugs, school violence, and how to prevent them in schools today.
This has helped raise awareness and fostered a sense of responsibility for protecting national maritime sovereignty among pupils, while also cultivating a revolutionary spirit and the awareness of preserving Viet Nam's territory.
To ensure the high quality and efficiency of the competitions, the Lien Chieu District Party Committee has directed the District’s Education and Training Office and schools to closely follow the contests’ content and themes and to make a list of diligent students to give gifts.
Simultaneously, the District’s Party Committee has directed the District’s Youth Union organisation to organise activities related to marine environmental protection.
