Exciting firefighting and rescue skills competition in Da Nang

A municipal-level firefighting and rescue skills competition was organised for members of “Fire Prevention and Safety Joint Family Groups” in Da Nang on Saturday, offering locals basic steps when a fire occurs, and technical skills to escape.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony of the competition, Permanent Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Ho Ky Minh highlighted the importance of the competition in improving knowledge, and enhancing capacity and skills in handling fire and explosion situations, and saving people and property. This, thereby, contributed to maintaining and promoting the effectiveness of the "Fire Prevention and Safety Joint Family Group" model, and effectively implementing the motto 'four-on-the-spot' in handling fire and explosion situations.

According to Vice Chairman Minh, all 258,146 households have been already mobilised to equip portable fire extinguishers. Meanwhile, 639 "Fire Prevention and Safety Joint Family Groups” and 2,239 “Public firefighting points” have been set up across the city.

Also, hundreds of fires, explosions, accidents, and incidents have been promptly detected and handled since the beginning of the year, preventing serious consequences to people and property.

After the opening ceremony, nearly 100 athletes from 7 districts in the city competed in two contents: theoretical knowledge of fire prevention and rescue; and firefighting and rescue skills for the "Fire Prevention and Safety Joint Family Group".

As a result, the first, second, and third prizes went to Hai Chau, Son Tra and Thanh Khe districts respectively.

The first prize winning team will participate in the second round of the national firefighting and rescue skills competition in Region 3 which is organised by the Ministry of Public Security in Binh Dinh Province and is expected to take place next month.
