Speaking at the launching ceremony, Head of the Office of Education and Training of Hoa Vang District Le Van Hoang said that Hoa Vang had the largest system of lakes, rivers and streams in the city, so local children were at the higher level of drowning risk.

He added that thanks to the special care of local leaders at all levels on preventing and combating drowning for children, 30 swimming pools in schools across the district have undergone effective operation, creating healthy playgrounds for pupils every summer.

Mr. Hoang highlighted the significance of the launching ceremony in demonstrating the seriousness in ensuring the plans and goals set out in teaching swimming to pupils.

Since the beginning of the year, the city has provided funding from the State budget for localities to organise swimming courses for pupils. On that basis, since early May, the Office of Education and Training of Hoa Vang District has issued documents directing the review of swimming pool quality.

Regarding ensuring the quality of swimming lessons, two swimming courses will be organised each summer. After completing the course, children will be tested for quality and given Certificates of Completion.

Phan Thi Huynh Nhu, a pupil at the grade 4/1 of the Hoa Khuong Primary School 2, shared "I am no longer afraid of water when taking part in the swimming course at my school. In addition, learning swimming helps me have better health as well as prevent drowning."

Also on the occasion, other localities citywide are preparing to launch safe swimming courses for pupils in the summer of 2024.
