People’s Committee of Son Tra District in Da Nang held a ceremony on Thursday to launch the Action Month for Children 2024 on the occasion of the International Children's Day (June 1).

Son Tra District currently has nearly 40,000 children, of whom 453 children are in special circumstances, and nearly 4,000 children are at risk of falling into special circumstances (including those living in poor, near-poor families, and orphaned, fatherless or motherless ones).

In recent years, Son Tra District has effectively implemented child protection, care and education programmes. The locality has coordinated with some units to give scholarships to poor studious pupils, build houses of gratitude for those in need, provide free medical examination and free heart surgery, and educate children about life skills.

On the occasion, 14 children in difficult circumstances who strived to overcome difficulties to gain the best academic results were granted scholarships, valued at VND2 million each, from the municipal People’s Committee.

Additionally, gifts were given to two families belonging to the Da Nang Street Children's Protection Centre, and the Orphanage Centre. 250 gifts went to children in extremely difficult circumstances in the district.
