Action Month for the Environment, Viet Nam Sea and Island Week celebrated in Da Nang

A host of activities in response to World Environment Day, Action Month for the Environment, and Viet Nam Sea and Island Week 2024 were simultaneously organised in Da Nang’s districts of Cam Le, Hai Chau and Hoa Vang.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of Cam Le District People's Committee Nguyen Quang Vinh emphasized that World Environment Day, Viet Nam Sea and Island Week, and Action Month for the Environment were opportunities for the district to affirm its determination to well implement goals of its environmental protection project during the 2021-2030 period.

In particular, the district will prioritize promptly resolving environmental problems; enhancing environmental quality in the new situation; upholding high sense of responsibility in environmental protection in the community; deploying the model of environmentally friendly residential areas and wards; and monitoring the compliance with legal regulations on environmental protection.

The district will encourage the start-up development for green, environmentally friendly products, and circular economic development, creating reputation and brand for businesses, he added.

Along with that, heed will be on well performing the classification and treatment of waste, increasing recycling and reuse; implementing models of organic waste treatment to make fertilizer for plants; and limiting plastic and generated waste.

After the launching ceremony, Cam Le District organized the festival "Creating green lifestyle - Green start-up"; a bicycle parade to propagate environmental protection; a display of start-up, recycled and environmentally friendly products; a contest to learn about the Law on Environmental Protection 2020; and a gift exchange using recycles.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee Nguyen Van Duy highlighted that the district has been focusing on mobilizing resources and implementing a series of environmental protection actions, thereby contributing to building Hai Chau into an environmentally-friendly district with a green, clean and beautiful urban appearance.

He also took the opportunity to calls on all organizations, agencies, associations, unions, businesses and local people to actively plant and care for trees in front of their houses; put waste in the right place; reduce plastic waste; classify waste at source; and participate in cleaning up the environment at the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) in 2024.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, nearly 1,000 youth union members, members of associations, unions, officers and soldiers of the armed forces across the district took part in a general cleanup of the environment on many roads and along the Han River.

In Hoa Vang district, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee Nguyen Tan Khoa said that the district continued to actively and effectively implement specific work contents according to the roadmap and implementation plan of the project on building Hoa Vang into an environmentally friendly district during the 2021-2025 period with a vision to 2030.

In addition, the district will concentrate on effectively handling land abandonment; planting trees to cover hills and mountains to prevent erosion; and doing forest management and protection in the area.

The locality will encourage the production of environmentally friendly products to replace traditional plastic products; and limit the use of plastic bags or single-use plastic products to minimize plastic waste generation.
