Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, remarked that voluntary blood donation movement has been organised for many years in many practical forms. Also, it has received special attention and direction from authorities at all levels, and enthusiastic response from people.

Many models and initiatives have carried out with positive results and have had a widespread effect on the society, including "Pink Spring Festival", " Summer Pink Blood Drops", "Red Journey", "Blood Donation Family", "Live Blood Bank", and "Rare Blood Group Club".

The city receives tens of thousands of blood units every year, of which thousands of people donate blood many times, and some individuals and families donate blood more than 90 times. Thanks to this, medical facilities citywide have enough blood to provide emergency treatment for patients.

Last year, 35,989 blood units were collected across the city, reaching 133% of the annual plan. The repeat blood donation ratio reached 55% while the proportion of blood units with a volume of 350ml was 56%. The rate of people participating in blood donations accounted for 2.99% of the population.

“Da Nang is one of the localities with a high rate of blood donations compared to the population in the country for many consecutive years. The city's Steering Committee highly appreciates, recognizes and commends the outstanding collectives and individuals of the movement” Mrs. Thi emphasised.

She expressed her hope that steering committees at all levels will continue upholding their achieved results, and mobilising cadres, party members, soldiers, civil servants, public employees, workers and people to participate in voluntary blood donation activities.

On the occasion, 303 groups, individuals and family representatives were honoured for their active involvement in voluntary blood donation campaigns. Specifically, 31 people received Certificates of Merit from the President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society. 133 individuals were given Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, whilst 139 others received Certificates of Merit from the Da Nang Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.
