Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Duong Hoang Van Ban highlighted the importance of greenhouse gas inventory activities in assessing and managing human impacts on the environment and climate change in the atmospheric system.

The government’s Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the ozone layer stipulated that greenhouse gas inventory was the activity of collecting information and data on sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and calculating the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and absorption within a specified range and in a specific year according to methods and procedures issued by competent authorities, he said.

With Viet Nam’s commitment to bring net emissions to zero by the middle of the century made at the COP26 climate conference, sectors that have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as industry and trade, natural resources and environment, construction, transportation and agriculture have been developing plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; as well as assessing and inventorying  greenhouse gas emissions of businesses and establishments in order to attach responsibility for reducing emissions.

He hoped that through the event, local businesses will grasp the legal and technical requirements for greenhouse gas inventory, and roll out solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in service of growth, productivity and sustainable jobs for businesses.

General Director of STI Vietnam Co., Ltd. Le Anh Hung noted that March 31, 2025 will be the deadline for businesses to send reports to the municipal People's Committee on the inventory of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O).

A representative of the Center for Energy Saving and Technology Transfer Consulting under the municipal Department of Science and Technology also said that the unit has been supporting and providing energy audit services; and developing a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to contribute to good implementation of the provisions of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP.
