In recent days, the family of 101-year-old Heroic Vietnamese Mother Pham Thi Thin, living in Phu Son 3 Village, Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, has been bustling with visitors sharing in their joy as her home was renovated in time in celebration of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27,1947 - July 27, 2024). The house was upgraded with over VND 141 million from the city's Gratitude Fund, nearly VND 20 million from philanthropists, and savings from the family.

Mrs Tran Thi Xi, the youngest daughter-in-law of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Pham Thi Thin, shared that "My mother-in-law’s house had deteriorated over the years. Now, thanks to the city’s support, it has been upgraded into a new, spacious home with all the necessary amenities. We are really happy."

The Hoa Vang District Office of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs stated that in 2024, the district had 15 new houses built with the financial support of VND 60 million per house and 39 houses upgraded with support of VND 30 million per house, totaling over VND 2 billion.

According to Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Party Committee, Mr To Van Hung, the district always carries out specific, practical actions to support revolution contributors.

Ensuring that Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, war invalids, sick soldiers, and families of revolutionary contributors have the best housing conditions is a reflection of the nation’s gratitude. The upgrade of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Pham Thi Thin’s house was done under the guidance of Nguyen Van Quang, a member of the Central Committee of the Party and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, during his visit to her on the 49th anniversary of the city’s liberation on 29 March.

Similarly, the house of Mrs Tran Thi Chien,  Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, daughter of martyr Tran Van Tuong, was completed and put into use nearly five months ago. Previously, her family lived in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District and had to relocate. The city provided resettlement land in Hoa Hai Ward and Mrs. Chien wished to build a sturdier house than the old level-4 house. "I feel very warm-hearted with the local government’s concern. Having a new, spacious house means we can properly honour my father. I believe he would be at peace," Mrs. Chien expressed.

According to Mai Xuan Linh, Head of the Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Ngu Hanh Son District, from the beginning of the year, the district focused on reviewing and planning housing support for revolutionary contributors and martyrs’ relatives to ensure they do not live in temporary homes. In 2024, the district has built 13 new houses and upgraded 30 houses with a total budget of nearly VND 1.7 billion. In the first six months of the year, the district completed 3 new houses and 4 renovations.

In Lien Chieu District, the house of 69-year-old war invalid Truong Hoai Phong, living in Hoa Minh Ward, is being completed. Mr Phong, a war invalid with declining health, suffered significant damage to his old house during the flood in October 2022. Since then, during rains, his house would leak, causing sleepless nights. In early 2024, he expressed his wish to build a new house and received VND 60 million in support from the ward. "I am over the moon. Now the house is sturdy, and my family no longer has to worry about sleepless nights during the rainy season," Mr Phong shared.

Mr Nguyen The Tuan, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, stated that in 2024, Da Nang had 496 houses either repaired or newly built. This includes 423 repairs and 73 new constructions with a total budget of VND 17.07 billion. The department is currently reviewing and reporting to the Da Nang People’s Committee on implementing land use fee exemptions for revolutionary contributors according to Decree No. 131/2021/ND-CP dated December 30, 2021, of the Government.

Additionally, the social housing project for revolution contributors on Vu Mong Nguyen Street, Ngu Hanh Son District, is being urgently completed for early use. The project is being built on a 3,122 square metre site with a 12-floor building, including a basement and an attic floor, with a total investment of nearly VND 224 billion. The Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs is reporting to the Da Nang People’s Committee on the subjects, principles, conditions, standards, and procedures for approving applications for renting apartments allocated to families of revolutionary contributors facing housing difficulties.
