Plans for natural disaster mitigation in Da Nang seaport waters

The Da Nang Port Authority held a meeting on Thursday to review the work of natural disaster prevention and mitigation, and search and rescue in 2023 and identify tasks for 2024.

In 2023, the natural disaster prevention and search and rescue operations were implemented effectively, with no loss of life or property due to natural disasters reported.

The Da Nang Port Authority commented that the weather situation and natural disasters are becoming increasingly complicated and unpredictable. According to the forecast of the General Department of Hydrometeorology, the El Niño phenomenon is gradually weakening and is expected to transition into a La Niña in the last months of 2024. Up to 13-15 storms are forecast to enter the East Sea this year, 5-7 of which will directly affect Viet Nam.

In the coming time, the Da Nang Port Authority will continue to implement legal regulations related to disaster prevention and search and rescue activities; Directive No. 42/CT-TW dated March 24, 2020 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in preventing, responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; and the Government’s resolution on natural disaster prevention and mitigation.

Emphasis will be laid on urging investors and construction units to speed up the progress of some ongoing projects, including the construction of the Lien Chieu Port, and the dredging of the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and a storm shelters of the Naval Region 3.

In addition, the port authority will continue coordinating with relevant units to proactively monitor and grasp information about dangerous weather warnings at sea.
