Spreading positive lifestyles among the youth

The success of grassroots Youth Union activities is partly due to dynamic, enthusiastic, and dedicated leaders who inspire members to actively participate in various initiatives. One such leader is Tran Thi Thu Trang, 20, who is Secretary of the Youth Union organisation in Giang Nam 1 Hamlet, Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District.

Thu Trang has always been keen on participating in social activities since childhood. As a student, she actively sought out and engaged in the school’s youth movements. Upon entering university, she excelled in her capabilities and was elected Secretary of Class 48K33, majoring in Financial Technology at the Faculty of Finance, University of Economics, Da Nang University.

At her local community, Thu Trang serves as the Secretary of the Youth Union organisation in Giang Nam 1 Hamlet, Hoa Phuoc Commune. In this role, she leads by example, initiating many effective activities and ideas that have helped the local youth movement thrive, catering to the needs of rural youth.

In response to “Action Month for Children”, she has organised various activities, aimed at educating children on drowning prevention, sexual abuse prevention, and road safety. She also initiated the “Youth Megaphone” project to promptly communicate and warn about the dangers and consequences of firework-related accidents, and to implement immediate measures to prevent students from making explosive fireworks.

Pham Thi Bao Quyen, a young resident, shared that during summer vacations, young students were gathered by local youth union members to participate in educational and recreational activities, learning essential skills like drowning prevention, which is particularly important in an area with many ponds and lakes.

To foster a reading culture and provide children with access to stories about President Ho Chi Minh, Thu Trang and her team established the “Ho Chi Minh Cultural Reading Space” with nearly 30 books worth over VND 2 million, and the “Digital Library - Reading in the 4.0 Era” to promote reading among youth and the local community.

Given the financial hardships in Giang Nam 1 Village where many students lack basic school supplies, Thu Trang initiated the “Books - Sharing Love” project. Under the project, used books which were collected from individuals and organisations were given to needy children. This effort has resulted in the distribution of seven sets of books worth a total of VND 2.1 million to seven children.

She also mobilised youth union members to donate 10 units of blood during the “Voluntary Blood Donation Day,” and personally contributed multiple times.

Thu Trang has maintained and developed the “Green Road” model, regularly organising clean-up and tree planting activities along the hamlet’s roads. She has also introduced dozens of young people to vocational training opportunities in reputable institutions, helping them secure stable employment in fields like motorbike repair, hairdressing, poultry farming, and vegetable cultivation.

After completing her vocational training, Tran Thi Nhu Quynh opened her own hair salon. She expressed her gratitude, saying “Thanks to Thu Trang and the Youth Union organisation, I was able to learn hairdressing. My job and income are now stable, ensuring a good life for my family. I’m willing to support anyone who show interest in, especially young people.”

In collaboration with the women's union, veterans' association, and farmers' union, Thu Trang frequently organises environmental clean-up campaigns and the removal of illegal advertisements, contributing to the community’s aesthetic appeal.

As a member of the Hoa Vang District Youth Skills Training Council, she has also conducted training sessions for nearly 1,000 youth members and children in local schools.

Tran Van Tho, Secretary of Hoa Phuoc Commune Youth Union, praised Thu Trang for her enthusiasm and skill in mobilising youth participation, and highlighted the variety of activities and meaningful projects she has spearheaded, all which foster community spirit and promote responsible living among local youth.

Through her efforts, Thu Trang and the Giang Nam 1 Hamlet Youth Union organisation have achieved significant results and received numerous commendations from Youth Union organisation in Hoa Vang District, and Da Nang Youth Union.
