Workshop on biodiversity conservation in Central-Central Highlands held in Da Nang

The Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations, the city’s University of Science and Education, and the Green Viet Biodiversity Conservation Center (GreenViet), have jointly organised a workshop on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the central and Central Highlands regions on July 26 and 27.

Themed “Marine Conversation", this year’s event provided an opportunity for experts, scientists, managers, and representatives of domestic and foreign organisations and the community to discuss and propose solutions for the conservation and sustainable development of marine biodiversity in the central coastal region in particular and Viet Nam in general.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations Nguyen Dinh Phuc emphasised the work of conserving marine biodiversity in Viet Nam in general and in the Central Coast region in particular was still limited and faced many difficulties and challenges. Marine ecosystems are faced many threats and increasing risks from human development activities.

He, therefore, stressed the need to have appropriate solutions to meet the needs and desires of relevant parties to act to realise Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Party Central Committee on the strategy for sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045; and Decision No. 389/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister and Viet Nam's important commitments to the international community related to marine conservation, and blue and sustainable marine economy.

The two-day event concentrates on discussing common, directional issues, such as marine spatial planning, marine conservation planning, co-management; experiences and solutions for marine conservation; cooperation in research, training, and implementation of projects to support marine conservation; and improve community livelihoods.
