During his reception on Wednesday for a group of visitors from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Le Quang Nam asked for help from ADB to continue supporting Da Nang in urban and transportation projects.

Vice Chairman Nam said that Da Nang has been constructing many underground works such as putting the existing overhead power lines along major downtown streets underground, building rainwater and wastewater drainage systems, and installing water and power supplies.

However, the underground works that have been invested in and are being planned in the city are still localised, mainly serving certain purposes without connection and linkage.

Currently, Da Nang is making efforts to take solutions to prevent localised flooding, respond to high tides and saltwater intrusion, and build drainage systems. The city, therefore, asked for funding from ADB to carry out a number of projects on climate change response and natural risk management because Da Nang is one of the localities heavily affected by climate change.

A representative of the ADB delegation assessed that Da Nang is a dynamic city with many advantages in developing a smart city and an innovative startup city.

ADB hoped that Da Nang will have many breakthroughs in the coming time after being allowed by the National Assembly to organise an urban administration model and pilot a number of specific mechanisms and policies for its development.

In the immediate future, Da Nang and ADB will continue to concretise the Memorandum of Understanding signed on January 26, 2024 on promoting the sustainable and comprehensive socio-economic development of Da Nang and effectively implementing the city’s master plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 through ADB-funded programmes and projects.

ADB pledged to continue to accompany the city in implementing projects on railway station relocation, smart transport, water supply and drainage system, etc.
