Da Nang speeds up investment in health network
Health facilities across Da Nang are being invested in, upgraded, and expanded according to the plan approved by the municipal People's Committee. In addition to the upper-level hospital projects invested by the People's Committee, the grassroots health facilities invested by the municipal Department of Health are also gradually changing their appearance, creating a synchronous development of infrastructure at all levels, and meeting the healthcare needs of local people.

Since 2019, the municipal People's Council has issued Resolution No. 266/NQ-HDND on the list of key, dynamic projects that need to be implemented from the city's budget, including the second campus of the Da Nang Hospital in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District.
Covering an area of 211,645m2, the project features the 600-bed Tropical Medicine Centre; the Hematology Centre; the Geriatric Centre and the Da Nang High-Quality General Hospital.
According to the plan, the first phase of the project will have a total floor area of 29,970m2, including a 9-storey block for examination, administration and inpatient treatment activities, a 5-storey technical block, and synchronous investment in technical infrastructure systems such as internal traffic, drainage, water supply, green parks, etc.
According to the Management Board of Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Investment Projects, the investor and operator of the project, the unit has recently sent an official dispatch to the Department of Health to agree on the investment policy of the Tropical Medicine Centre project under the Da Nang Hospital. Currently, the Management Board is coordinating with the consulting unit to complete the report to speed up the construction of the project.
In addition, the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital is implementing two projects at the same time. They are projects to build, renovate and supplement equipment for the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, as well as to build and upgrade the hospital. These projects approved by the municipal People's Council in Resolution No. 295/NQ-HDND dated May 22, 2020 with a budget of more than VND 1,578 billion.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Nhat, Head of the Management Board of Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Investment Projects, in parallel with the implementation, the unit continues to remove related difficulties so that the project can be implemented according to plan, while ensuring the professional activities of the hospital. The construction of these two projects has encountered many difficulties. The Management Board has coordinated with the hospital to move patients and equipment in specialised departments and rooms in a bid to promptly hand over the site to carry out related items. In addition, the unit has requested the People's Committee to allow an extension of the contract implementation schedule for the construction and equipment supply and installation package.
Regarding the project to upgrade the district-level medical centre, the municipal People's Committee is currently requesting units to speed up the progress of such projects as the Thanh Khe District-based Medical Centre (phase 1); the Hoa Vang District General Hospital; and the Lien Chieu District-based Medical Center (phase 2). Most recently, the project on upgrading and renovating Ngu Hanh Son District-based Medical Centre has got approval from the municipal People's Council in Resolution No. 12/NQ-HDND dated March 24, 2023 with a total investment of VND 545.4 billion.
According to Dr. Tran Thanh Thuy, Director of the municipal Department of Health, aside from the People's Committee-invested medical projects, the grassroots health system is upgraded and expanded by the Department of Health.
Accordingly, the projects to renovate and upgrade the Health Stations of Hoa Thuan Dong and Hoa Thuan Tay wards in Hai Chau District, and Hoa Tien Commune in Hoa Vang District, are being submitted for review and approval of the final settlement.
Currently, the Department of Health is submitting a report proposing investment policies for projects to renovate and upgrade the Health Stations of Hoa Hai and My An wards in Ngu Hanh Son District; Hoa Khanh Nam and Hoa Hiep Bac wards in Lien Chieu District; and Phuoc My Ward in Son Tra District.
“The upgrade of infrastructure at all levels is completely consistent with the current general situation, contributing to reducing the patient overload, and ensuring facilities for medical examination, treatment and primary health care. At the same time, the health sector continues to maintain training activities, and add and retain human resources at all levels. Synchronous investment in both facilities and human factors helps to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment in a sustainable manner, meeting the needs of local residents” said Dr. Thuy.
