Da Nang's preparedness for tropical depression near East Sea

A tropical depression currently active near the East Sea is forecasted to strengthen into a typhoon in the coming days, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence of the city recently issued Official Dispatch No. 06/CD-PCTT on responding to the tropical depression.

According to the Mid-Central Regional forecasters, at 1:00 pm on September 16, the centre of the tropical depression was at latitude 17°1'N and longitude 123°09’E in the sea east of the Luzon Island in the Philippines. The strongest wind near the centre of the tropical depression was levels 6-7, gusting to level 9.

The tropical depression is expected to intensify into a typhoon within the next 24 to 48 hours as it continues moving westward.

The dangerous area in the East Sea in the next 24 hours is at latitude 15°00'N - 19°00'N and longitude 117°5’E.

To proactively respond to tropical depressions and minimize damage caused by natural disasters, the Head of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence of the city requests departments, agencies, sectors and district-level authorities to keep an eye on the track and stage development of tropical depression and possible rain and floods; as well as promptly direct and deploy response work according to some natural disaster scenarios in 2024 in the city.

The city’s Border Guard Command and the Da Nang Coastal Information Station are responsible for promptly notifying vessel and boat owners and captains operating at sea about the tropical depression's location, movement, and safe routes to follow.

In addition, the city’s Border Guard Command, and the Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port, will conduct inspections and provide guidance on safe anchorage for ships and boats. Additionally, they should have rescue forces and resources readily available to promptly respond to any adverse situations that may arise.

The municipal Department of Construction, and People's Committees of districts are urgently accelerating the progress of reinforcing and pruning tree branches, as well as coordinating with relevant units to direct the implementation of flood prevention and control, clear drainage ditches, and handle water collection pits.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence of departments, branches, districts and related units are asked to closely monitor the development of the tropical depression to proactively handle possible situations and maintain contact with the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence of the city.
