Lao Cai Province was one of the most affected with 72 deaths and 111 still missing.
The severe landslide that wiped away the entire Lang Nu Village in the province's Bao Yen District resulted in 30 deaths, 83 missing and 18 injuries, local authorities reported.
More than 54,000 houses across the northern cities and provinces were also submerged as the water level in the region’s rivers rose to alarming levels.
Early afternoon the same day, the Ministry of National Defence has deployed military helicopters to deliver disaster relief to people in affected areas in Yen Bai and Cao Bang provinces.
Rising water levels have also compelled the capital city of Ha Noi to evacuate households in areas near the Red River, including 380 in Hoan Kiem District, 836 in Bac Tu Liem District, 276 in Ba Dinh District and 129 in the suburban Quoc Oai District.
A total of 126 schools in the city were also forced to close on Wednesday due to the ongoing heavy downpours.
In solidarity with the nation, multiple state departments and agencies have launched support campaigns among public employees to deliver relief to people affected by the devastating consequences of Typhoon Yagi, including the Vietnam News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Party’s Central Commission for Communication and Education, the Party Committees of central departments and state enterprises, among others.
