According to Mr. Huynh Van Hau, Director of the Orphan Care Centre, the centre was established in 1995 and currently cares for 25 children, including 5 with disabilities, 5 with illnesses, and 15 in good health. The centre has 12 staff members, including 6 nannies who work in shifts day and night to care for the children.

“To secure additional funding for the children, every staff member actively seeks support from philanthropists. This effort is organised through the 'Skillful Mass Mobilisation Model for Fundraising at the Da Nang Red Cross Orphan Care Centre'. As a result, the centre receives extra financial support annually. Since the start of 2024, in addition to government funding, the centre has raised nearly VND 830 million from various benefactors,” said Mr. Hau.

Recently, representatives of the Nam Duong Ward Women’s Union, Hai Chau District, visited the centre and brought gifts for the children. Ms. Duong Thi Kieu Trinh, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union, shared that the members had raised nearly VND 5 million to buy nappies, wet wipes, and soap for the children.

“These children are already deprived of family love, so the community’s support is essential. We hope more philanthropists will come forward to assist them” Ms. Trinh expressed.

Similarly, Mr. Ta Hung Cuong in Ngu Hanh Son District mentioned that his football team, Fighting Cocks FC, recently donated nearly VND 35 million to build a kitchen and provide a clothes dryer for the centre.

“As the rainy season approaches in Da Nang, we wanted to ensure the children’s kitchen is more spacious and cleaner, and that their clothes can be dried quickly to safeguard their health. Our hope is that they grow up healthy and have the same opportunities to study as their peers” said Mr. Cuong.

At the centre, all 12 staff members dedicate their efforts and affection to the children. Nanny Nguyen Thi Tanh, who has spent nearly 30 years caring for these unfortunate children, regards it as her source of happiness. According to her, some children are born malnourished, weak, disabled, or suffer from congenital illnesses. Therefore, caring for them requires extra attention, understanding, and affection.

Mr. Huynh Van Hau added that over the years, thousands of benefactors have quietly donated funds and food to support the children. Many volunteers from international humanitarian organisations also frequently visit to provide material support and participate in rehabilitation exercises for the children. Thanks to these efforts, the centre has been refurbished with new facilities, equipment, and toys to enhance the children’s care. The centre has also contracted a doctor who regularly visits to monitor the children’s health, and nannies accompany sick children to Da Nang Maternity and Paediatric Hospital for treatment.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Lam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Red Cross Society, commented that the Orphan Care Centre not only fulfils its mission of caring for orphans and sick children but also actively mobilises resources from the community to better care for the children. According to him, for every abandoned child, the whole society's compassion is vital. He hopes that more benefactors will continue to support the centre and spread kindness to these unfortunate children.
