Converting production forests from acacia cajuput trees to large timber trees helps limit negative impacts on the ground layer, such as erosion and landslides, and contributes to improving the environment.
Mr. Thieu Song, a resident of Dong Lam Village, Hoa Phu Commune, said that with the encouragement of the local government and the support of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang and Green Viet, his family has converted to planting large timber forests in the sloping fields. He added that acacia trees with fast growth rates will be planted at the foot of the hill to prevent landslides, protect the production area and assets of the state and people, and increase economic value and efficiency.
According to Vice Chairman of Hoa Phu Commune People's Committee Huynh Tan Sinh, after 5 years of implementation, about 200 hectares of production forests in the locality have been converted from acacia trees to large timber trees.
Mr. Thai Van Quang, representative of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang, underlined the need for units and localities to pay attention to tree planting and care techniques to ensure socio-economic and environmental efficiency, contributing to responding to natural disasters and climate change.
In 2023, with the sponsorship of EcoCulture Organization, the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang and Green Viet coordinated with local authorities to transfer and support techniques for planting 20,000 trees of large timber species to households in Hoa Lien Commune, Hoa Vang District, to plant 18.1 hectares of forest, contributing to preventing erosion and landslides and protecting the environment and ecology towards the Government's goal of planting 1 billion trees in the 2021-2025 period.
