Many benefits of participating in food traceability
Businesses and service providers in Hai Chau District have proactively engaged in food traceability using QR codes, a system introduced by the district's Health Office in collaboration with Da Nang’s Food Safety Management Board. This initiative offers dual benefits by enhancing government oversight and ensuring transparency in maintaining service quality and protecting business reputations.

After learning about the benefits, The Alley, a tea shop on Nguyen Van Linh Street, decided to participate in this traceability initiative. The Alley is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. According to Ngo Thi Thao, the store manager, after understanding the process and its advantages, the shop fully supported the initiative.
"Using QR codes is essential and has positive implications for both service providers and customers. It allows us to demonstrate the origin of our food and receive quality feedback from customers. Consumers can easily access information about the ingredients they are consuming. For businesses that invest in quality, this system serves as an effective and reliable communication channel," Ms. Thao remarked.
Similarly, Pho Ba Mai, located on Tieu La Street, has adopted the QR code system under the guidance of the Hai Chau District Health Office. The owner, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy, expressed that the system provides necessary benefits to customers and serves as a transparent communication channel for both suppliers and consumers. "Businesses want transparency, and consumers have the right to know the quality of the food they consume. This transparency is crucial for protecting the legitimate interests of both parties", Ms. Thuy added.
The Hai Chau District Health Office has actively encouraged local businesses to participate in this initiative. According to Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Phuong, Head of the District Health Office, from 2024, the initiative will be rolled out across all 13 wards in the district. To support businesses, the District Health Office has streamlined various processes, from documentation to digital payments.
The district has also collaborated with the City’s Food Safety Management Board to conduct training sessions on food safety regulations and legal requirements. With the rise of global e-commerce, it is essential for local businesses to be transparent and trustworthy, promoting their services to both domestic and international visitors.
As of now, more than 1,700 food and beverage businesses in Hai Chau District have adopted the QR code traceability system, accounting for over 53% of such businesses citywide. This system has significantly enhanced transparency and service quality.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of Operations at Da Nang’s Food Safety Management Board, the food traceability project (Phase 1) is a key component of Da Nang’s Smart City initiative (2018-2025), with a vision toward 2030. The project aims to enhance accountability among all stakeholders, from government agencies to producers and consumers, particularly regarding food safety.
"Hai Chau District has successfully implemented the QR code traceability system, particularly in street food businesses and tourist areas. This initiative involves collaboration between businesses, the government, and consumers. By adopting this system, businesses can build consumer trust, strengthen their brand, and increase their competitive edge in the market," Mr. Phuc stated.
