Promoting role of veterans in building and developing Da Nang

The Da Nang Veterans’ Association held a ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Viet Nam Veterans’ Association (December 6, 1989 - December 6, 2024), and the 80th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024).

Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh highly praised the Da Nang Veterans’ Association for its outstanding achievements in the past time.

In particular, the Association have well organised the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans"; actively encouraged cadres and members to promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" to carry out political tasks,and actively participate in building and protecting the Party, the government and the people; and contributed many responsible and dedicated opinions to the Party Committees and authorities at all levels.

The Association and the Youth Union have done a good job of educating the young generation about the tradition of patriotism; promoting the movement "Veterans help each other reduce poverty and do good business"; and creating jobs for many workers.

The activities and movements of the Association have been organised in many diverse forms, contributing to the cause of building and developing the economy, culture, society, national defence and security of the city.

Deputy Secretary Vinh asked the Da Nang Veterans’ Association and its chapters at all levels to mobilise cadres, members and people to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 22nd Da Nang Party Congress, Conclusion No. 79 of the Politburo, Resolution No. 136 of the National Assembly, and Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo (9th tenure) on strengthening the Party's leadership over veterans' work in the new revolutionary period.

In addition, importance should be attached to improving the quality of the association's cadres at all levels; promoting the implementation of patriotic emulation movements and campaigns; and mobilising veterans to actively participate in socio-economic development, national defence - security programmes in the locality, he added.

Mr. Vinh also urged the Association to continue working with the municipal Youth Union to build and nurture the young generation of the city to be patriotic, have revolutionary ideals, have a beautiful and cultured lifestyle, and have aspirations for development.

Currently, the city has 20,768 veteran members, including 35 general officers in the Army, participating in activities at 1,173 branches and 112 grassroots chapters. 11,017 of them are party members.

On the occasion, the municipal Veterans’ Association commended 120 outstanding leaders of its chapters at all levels in 2024; and presented 35 gifts to veterans in difficult circumstances.
